Don & Amsale

When Don was in college in Connecticut, Amsale was a teenager in Ethiopia. Don was chain smoking cigarettes, spending hours a day in little practice rooms with his saxophone while attending music school, and being a DJ and manager of the college radio station. Amsale was looking after her little brother and little sisters, while managing the family’s money. She would go to market in the afternoon and stay late in the evening, to get deals on other vendors’ goods before they left. She would walk miles back and forth carrying her items to sell or that she acquired at evening’s end.

Family is important to them, and they each take time to enjoy their adult children, and their seven dogs, combined. With the blending, their families are each growing larger and more joyful. In addition, they love to travel, and spend time outdoors. They meditate together every morning before they go to their separate busy jobs. She runs a skilled nursing facility. He is focused on growing his law firm.

She loves to cook, clean and garden. He still plays saxophone at many jam sessions around town (too busy to join any band these days). He also enjoys singing in a barbershop quartet style choir with his son Joshua. Most of all, they just enjoy each other’s company, and look forward to this final chapter in their lives, together.
